Can't see this done... @DTguardian 2m2 minutes ago Unusual press conf from Van Gaal. He came armed with a four-page pamphlet of stats to combat Sam Allardyce's 'long-ball United' comments Van Gaal very indignant. Ended up telling us to take it off him. "Copy it and present it to Big Sam.

From what I hear Burnley should have beaten them tonight and were far the better team.

I expect LVG has spent the first half recording statistics to try and prove a point?
For my money this bloke is not going to last, but well done for splashing plenty of ManU cash by paying well over the top for some questionable quality, expect a new bloke next season who will need another pot of cash as some of this lot may well be offloaded at a considerable loss, long may it continue

Really hope the Mancs don't get CL again this year

A wonderful case study in human psychology :-)
Reverse psychology theory would suggest that this "defensiveness" belied deep seated anxieties about what people think of him (LVG) and that he ultimately feels like he is "not good enough" at what he is doing. Maybe in his deep subsconcious at least, insecurities/inadequacies the result of bullying as a child or the lack of love or approval from his parents who knows? Would need a few sessions "on the couch" of a shrink to work out the root cause.
If he was a truly confident man, assured that he himself, deep down, knew that what he is doing is correct and he has a plan that will succeed, he would have laughed it off, seen the BFS point of view and agreed to a point but, at the same time, point out that it got him a result. Above all else, I think you learn from an understanding of the human mind that humility is the best measure of confidence and the all important trait of being willing to be wrong. Most of us suffer with not be willing to be wrong to some extent but are not in the public spotlight. Must admit though, age and mellowing help and learning / accepting, as you get older, how little you really know. Its called "wisdom" I think?. LVG is displaying the wisdom of a rejected child :-)
What makes this even better is that he suffers the same hangups as Allardyce himself. Oh the delicious irony of it all. :-)

I agree with Scholes, who says, to paraphrase, "LVG is a precious and massive CUNT!"
Well said, Scholsey.

Van Gaal faces criticism over long ball dossier
Manchester United great Paul Scholes has hit out at the "bizarre" reaction from Louis van Gaal in response to criticism from West Ham manager Sam Allardyce.
Allardyce labelled Van Gaal's side as "long-ball United" following Sunday's 1-1 Premier League draw at Upton Park.
That prompted a reaction from the Dutchman, who produced a dossier ahead of Wednesday's match with Burnley claiming that Allardyce's assertion was incorrect and that it was West Ham who had a higher percentage of long balls.
Scholes, who the Premier League on 11 occasions with United, believes Van Gaal should not have risen to Allardyce's comments - which he felt were said in jest.
"Why would you react to a West Ham manager? It's different if it's a rival manager like Chelsea or Manchester City's, but at the end of the day you're the Manchester United manager," he told BT Sport.
"I found it all bizarre to be honest with you, as I felt Allardyce's comments were light-hearted in the first place."
Former Netherlands international Pierre van Hooijdonk had a similarly dim view of his compatriot's tenure at Old Trafford, describing his impact at the club as "unrecognisable".
The ex-Celtic and Nottingham Forest striker also claimed that "the biggest clowns" are making a mockery of Van Gaal's tactics.
"Louis looked like a suitable successor for David Moyes but, at the moment, he is disappointing," he told Voetbal International.
"To steer away from the results, the way they are playing is awful. I can't see the touch of Van Gaal - he is unrecognisable.
"It all started in the summer. You couldn't follow their transfer policy. It looks like United just bought some great names. The result is a team of top players without any unity.
"Even the biggest clowns are laughing about Van Gaal. During my spell at Nottingham Forest I've worked with them: Dave Bassett and Ron Atkinson.
"In England they're respected coaches, but I know they are just really bad actors, men that had no idea how to improve a team. These guys and [Sam] Allardyce as well."
Ooh, you bitch!!!

I don’t really understand all this ‘mind games’ nonsense. A bit like political spin. You can see people are doing it a mile off, so just ignore it and carry on doing what you do.

Whereas I reckon from time to time there are winners and SAF was a master at it. He would successfully wind Benitez or Wenger up, with a press conference comment, on a regular basis and be ahead in the mind game.

Agreed. LVG could've completely turned this on its head and said "Yes, West Ham played very well and for all our attacking players we couldn't break them down. I had to try to get something from the game so went more direct".
However, that would've shown a touch of class and the bloe has got about as much class as a lump of shit on a plate.

Long 'passes'
This is getting to be comedy. A four page dossier, a rant at reporters, I'd say Allardyce has won this little battle hands down.
Would it have hurt LVG to say 'yes, we played some long stuff', instead of saying 'we only did it after Fellaini came on'? He just sounded like a spoilt kid.
Shit sticks, as well. LVG won't be able to play this down, and everyone in football will be watching their style tonight and counting the hoofs.
